This will make 15 years…
While searching way back in my facebook page the other day, I noticed on April, 22 2011 - My post said “8count-cheer-music set up their facebook and webpage, pretty exciting.” Its been just a few days past 15 years now that I started my professional journey making mixes for cheer teams. I started making cheer mixes becasue I was a new dad and even with a full time job and my wife working full time, some extra money could help. I didn’t come from a cheer background, but from a musical one. I am not sure how I stumbled into hearing a cheer mix the first time, but I thought… “hmm, I could do that!”
Well, the guy who already ran a cheer music company named “8count” and his lawyer didn’t like my new cheer company name very much - I appoligized and moved on. I had to think of a new name, and in a panic one day - decided on boom. Boomcheermix it was, and the rest is history.
I still remember my first few customers, not sure if they had any idea I was just starting out but my prices were pretty good and I had a lot of desire to make a great mix! One was a young coach from Ruston, LA named Shelby and another fairly early customer is someone I still do mixes for, Barb Lacahnce!!
Mixing is not easy - cheer mixes are complicated. My “ROUGH” mix process was born out of my absolute ignorance about cheer - when I first started the ROUGH mixes were so that I could see if I was remotely on the right track and if the customer would fall for, I mean like my mix. Now I bring new coaches along - I have helped numerous brand new cheer coaches navigate the complicated waters of copyright compliant cheer music mixes. I’m still learning and still experimenting. I don’t have it all figured out yet. There is a deep desire in me to become the very best at this. 15 YEARS… I can hardly believe I’ve kept this business for this long.
